General Information Rovigo stands on the low ground between the lower courses of the rivers Adige and Po, 80 km by rail SW of Venice and 40 km SSW of Padua, and on the Adigetto Canal. The low ground between the lower Po and the lower Adige and the sea is known as Polesine, a name the derivation of which is much discussed, generally applied only to the province of Rovigo, but is sometimes extended to the neighborhood of Adria and Ferrara. In the heart of Rovigo is piazza Maggiore which is entitled to Vittorio Emanuele II to whom the Giulio Monteverde monument is dedicated.
This pedestrian part of the city shows on one side the town hall, called Loggia dei Notai while on the other side there is the Palazzo Rovella and Palazzo dell'Accademia dei Concordi. The palazzo dell'accademia hosts the library and the picture gallery. Near Rovigo there is the private island of Albarella where a nice spa resort is located. In this area you can navigate along the river Po and you can admire all the ponds, small islands, the huts and the incredible variety of plants and animals. The main cities around here are Rosolina and its beach resort Rosolina Mare, Adria, Isola della Donzella, Porto Tolle and isola Albarella.
